O Danny BoyToday was really windy and brisk and my classes ran smoothly. I got a lot of them. I also did some shakubuku which really helped..The monthly leaders meeting was tonight and it was very amazing. We performed a farewell min-on show for Sogohonbucho and he even played a tune on his saxophone. May 8 we are having our next leaders at the Hollywood Bowl and May 12 (my birthday) we’re having a fantastic min-on. Well I must rest because I really need it. Goodnite. Still not studying hard enough.

Note:Min On (people’s music) was established by Daisaku Ikeda in 1963 as a cultural institution that hosts musicians from around the world and is supported by nearly a million sustaining members.

Sogohonbucho Mr. Williams at the end of the Monthly Leader’s meeting (Honbukombu-kai) usually held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium would pull out his saxophone and play a song like Danny Boy which he would inevitably dedicate to his Sensei (Master) Daisaku Ikeda. Williams lead by example to encourage members in their practice, particularly the Young Men’s Division who were often involved in the Brass Band, an activity started by President Ikeda in Japan. I played the clarinet and bass clarinet.
